A lot of the Japanese cultural motiffs were sourced from their feudalist past, in their Age of Swords. Also American honor circa 1700s and 1800s had many commonalities with Japanese norms. A Japanese leader’s responsibility to his loyal subordinates mirrors the responsibility of government towards its citizens. While the government makes the decisions, it is the people that provide the power for those decisions.
